Lax in the Box – Dresden

The Vienna Monarchs found themselves, yet again, competing at the Lax in the Box – box lacrosse tournament in Dresden, Germany, 5th-7th of May 2017. The Monarchs had their eyes set on a great tournament including opponents from Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the Czech Republic.

After taking the trip up North, the Monarchs slowly started to arrive Friday evening at the Hotel Adler and wasted no time, but made sure to get the rest they needed for meeting Team Germany (Deutschland Adler) for their first game of the tournament the very next day.

March Madness Münster - In between bikes and brotherly rivalry

The first weekend of March brought us up north, more precisely to Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia. The first obstacle was surviving a ten hour car ride in two nine-seat buses and arriving in Münster late at night.

8 Monarchs went to Prague for WC 2017 tryouts

At the end of this Autumn’s preparation season, the ladies applying for the Austrian Lacrosse National Team, visited the Czech Republic for some friendly games. Amongst the team were also eight Lady Monarchs.

The icy temperatures seemed to have frozen the players in place at the beginning of the first game against LCC Radotin and the creative and fast Czech players dominated from the start. The Austrian team was not able to control the fast pace of the attack and the usually very strong defense couldn’t reassemble in time.

Ken Galluccio Cup 2016 with the Monarchs girls

The Lady Monarchs returned from Belgium with an awesome and well deserved fifth place at the Lacrosse Champions League, the Ken Galluccio Cup 2016!

The Lady Monarchs win the Austrian Lacrosse League for the second year in a row!

On July 3rd, the final gameday of the season, the Lady Monarchs were able to finish the lacrosse season undefeated and win the sought-after championship title. In 2016 the Austrian Lacrosse League was fortunate to have the Budapest Blackberries join who bravely fought in their first league appearance. During a total of four games the Vienna Cherokees, Graz Gladiators, Vienna Monarchs and the Budapest Blackberries fought for the league victory. A big thank you goes out to all the players and to our coaches who prepared us well and were responsible for our strong performance on the field.
