Although our defense around Stephan Lorenz in goal, who was outstanding on the day, put up a strong fight, the Bats were able to find the odd gap to capitalize on. They won the second quarter 1:4 and went into the half-time break with a total score of 6:6.
The game continued briskly after half-time. Although the men from Bratislava scored the first goal of the quarter, this was followed by four from our boys. After an open exchange of blows, the quarter ended 4:3 in favor of the Monarchs and they went into the final break with a narrow 10:9 lead.
The motto in the final quarter was not to let up.And after a goalless opening period, the Vienna Monarchs scored their first goal. Klaus Hauer scored again after a pass from Gerhard Probst to make it 11:9.However, the Bats did not give up and were able to tie the scores at 11:11 with two quick goals.Both teams were determined to win and fought doggedly for every ball and centimeter.Unfortunately for the Monarchs, it was to come to a bitter end, as Bratislava veteran Denis Englis scored the winning goal with 50 seconds left on the clock to make it 11:12.After not being able to reward themselves for this good performance, it is now time to look ahead to the last weekend of the season, because on June 8 and 9, the Wroclaw Panthers and the LC Custodes await our Monarchs at the end of the season.
