Undefeated into winter break

Three games, three wins for the Vienna Monarchs in the newly formed Slovak Boxlacrosse league (SBLL). Five teams in total battle for the win in the inaugural season - Skalica Chiefs, Trnava Sabres and the host Bratislava Bats from Slovakia as well as the Polish Eagles. The regular season is a round robin format followed by a final four weekend throughout the winter months of 2019/2020.

In our first game we were able to accomplish our goals against a very new team, the Trnava Sabres, who gave us a hard fight. The Monarchs themselves had a few players who were new to the indoor game and the whole team came together for a solid 16-7 victory.

Two weeks after, the first double header came up or our men’s team: Saturday, the Bratislava Bats, home team and frequent participant of the National Boxlacrosse League (NBLL) and Sunday the Chiefs from Skalica.

The game against a strong Bats team was quite even until halftime, dominated by two strong defenses. In the second half we were able to capitalize on out depth and fitness and with a few runs were able to expand the lead and come away with a 20-11 win. Although the score doesn’t quite reflect the course of the game, discipline, gameplan and the will to win made the difference in the end.

In the game the next day against the Skalica Chiefs painted a similar picture. A very strong first half by the opposing goalie prevented the score to run up. It took us until the 4th quarter to pile up a comfortable lead and we were able to bring home a 17-5 win. Two games, two wins - successful weekend!

After 3 wins in total the Vienna Monarchs are going into winter break on top of the table and were able to qualify for the final for early. One last game in the regular season against the Polosh Eagles coming up before we try to bring home the cup of the Slovak Boxlacrosse League in the final four!
