The Vienna Monarchs were founded on May 28th, 2003, as Vienna’s first Lacrosse Club by Christoph Mistelbauer & Karin Novotny. The new women’s team – the Vienna Lady Monarchs – was born on July 1st, 2006, the Junior Monarchs on October 1st, 2007.
Since then both the women’s and men’s team enjoy steady growth. This makes it possible for us to participate and perform in numerous lacrosse events. With our participation it was possible to found the DLC (Danube Lacrosse Conference) in 2004 and the ÖLL (Austrian Lacrosse League) in 2006.
Furthermore, we annually organize the ALO (Austrian Lacrosse Open), an international lacrosse tournament, ever since 2004. Both men and women of the Vienna Monarchs also participate in different European tournaments (Isar Box tournament, Sofia Lacrosse Cup, New Year’s Cup, Pilsen Open, Aleš Hebeský Memorial Radotin, LaX in the Box Dresden, March Madness Münster…). We, women and men, also represented Austria in the Champions League - the Ken Galluccio Cup - several times.
Even off the field the Vienna Monarchs are very eager to make the trend sport lacrosse better known. Hence, we were active at the “Tag des Sports”, the “Spark7 Slam-Tour”, the “Erste Bank Vienna Sportfestival”, the “Girlies Sports Day” and other sport events.
